The Natural Areas Program Performance Oversight Committee is preparing their second report evaluating Metro's progress implementing the strategies, goals and objectives of the voter-approved bond measure. The report will be presented to the Metro Council and citizens in early 2010.
Composed of representatives from throughout the region, the committee includes members from the finance, auditing, accounting, real estate, banking, grant making and law fields. Chaired by Peter Krainock, CEO of American International Supply Inc., the 20-member committee is charged with providing the Metro Council and the people of the region with an independent, outside review of the program in order to help Metro achieve the best results for clean water, fish and wildlife, and future generations.
Members have been asked to share their professional expertise to ensure that bond measure expenditures are effective and efficient. Specifically, the committee has been reviewing the program's overall performance for natural area acquisitions, the administration of the local park projects the measure funded and the process for reviewing requests for funding from the Nature in Neighborhoods capital grants program.
The Natural Areas Program Performance Oversight Committee does not hold regularly scheduled meetings. See Metro's online calendar for the next meeting.

The Natural Areas Program Performance Oversight Committee has met several times since the Metro Council appointed the members in 2007. The committee divided the program among the members so that they may immerse in specific program areas to develop meaningful recommendations. Thus far, they have led staff in the development of a new regional acquisition performance measurement system and have advised on the development of the capital grants program.
